It will be rather low shutter speed, meaning that the camera will need less gain to output an enlighten picture, thus less grain at end.
If you use Auto mode indoor, you WILL definitely obtain more grain because the camera will amplify the signal (light) too much...
If you like please try with 30p setting and Cine mode, or try 60i with lock TV mode with a low shutter speed (1/48 or 1/60, dont know what is available on ntsc camera).
Otherwise, try outdoor a sunny day, with auto setting. -

HDV 24p ? 30p ? 50i ? 60i ?
Cinema mode ?
I downloaded your movie in full definition and i think you did shot it with HDV 50i or 60i setting.
If you film stuff in dark light which seems to be the case most of the time when you're indoor, then best would be to use a low shutter speed. Try HDV 24p (or 25p if PAL) combined with Cinema mode (or TV mode with 1/48 or 1/50 if PAL).
I do not find your video that bad by the way. Please try to film something outdoor with more light and check if you're still unhappy with the result.
The result may not be as crisp as what you'd obtain with a HF-S10, however in dark light HV40 is supposed to be very good (i own HV30 and i'm very happy with the result). -
4 months agoDavid Lucas commented on Sometimes in AprilHello Frank and sorry that i didnt reply earlier.
There is no night shot on the HV30 like you may have on Sony cams. However there is a light on the cam, but i do not like it. For night shots i prefer to simply use Cinema mode (it is a fixed 1/50th shutter speed) and eventually lock exposure, or a TV=1/50th mode with lock exposure. In my opinion a lower shutter speed is barely good as soon as there is moving objects...
thanks for watching,
