Thanks for the comments. I have an XHA1 but it's remained in the bag for the last year while I've used the 5D... and much prefer it's look. I've never found the 12min limit an issue.

BUT there are drawbacks. I record audio separately, so it needs to be synced up (with Pluraleyes, or by hand) and that takes time. Also, I convert all the footage to Prores because editing the raw H264 files is sluggish.

So - if you're shooting loads of footage it'll cause you big problems in the edit. For your summer tour job, the XHA1 would make things much easier. You can just dump hours of footage off in one go and start cutting immediately.

The other thing is focusing with such a shallow DoF is difficult - especially for documentary where you can't control your subject at all.

I'd suggest sticking with the A1, and then finding another (smaller) project for the 7D - because you'll love the results.

Thanks. Yes, I recorded the audio using a Zoom H4n audio recorder, and then used PluralEyes to automatically sync the audio and video in Final Cut Pro.

Hi. I used a Nikon 50mm f1.4 manual focus for most of the shots. It's much easier to focus than AF lenses. And the wides are all with the Canon 17-40mm f4.

Most of the shots are using a Nikon 50mm f1.4 manual focus lens - which I started using before the firmware update to get around the exposure issue. But it's still great because focusing with an AF lens is so fiddly. And the wide shots are all on the 17-40mm f4 Canon lens.

I used the Zoom H4n audio recorder, with it's built-in mic, then synced to the Canon 5D footage manually in post. There was a lot of air-con hum in the room - so really should've plugged a shotgun mic or clip mic into it.
