The background was a black wall so that was the main factor. We lit the subject from above and stopped the camera down to really crush the blacks...

Yates the framing effect was achieved by using a letus adapter... by pulling back from the ground glass you can see the frame that it sits in... the film burn is just any ol' film burn that you can use nothing special... just cropped for the inner frame
