Eliana Ujueta is a Latina and native New Yorker who was raised in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. She graduated from Brooklyn College in 2007, as a film major. Before then she was a New York City Police Officer. She has always had a love of film so she decided to take film as an elective. From there began her passion to create movies that were both entertaining and would present a variety of ways of seeing the world.

In 2010, she received her M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts. Focusing on the video track, she was inspired by her thesis advisor to direct her first feature, Beneath the Rock, which she also wrote and produced. The narrative incorporates a myth that circulated when the director was raised in Bushwick.

It was about a girl named Cherry who accidently died or was killed in the police alley/lot. When the director was a police officer in the East Village, a drug dealer controlled E.7th Street from Avenue B-C and protected his illegal activity with lookouts from the street levels to the rooftops. The director also used this incident and placed it within her narrative of Beneath the Rock.
