Iraq veteran-turned-writer and photographer Elliott D. Woods has been working in Afghanistan since 2009. Assignment Afghanistan, Elliott’s longterm project, won the 2011 Digital National Magazine Award for Multimedia from the American Society of Magazine Editors. His work has also been honored by the Overseas Press Club of America, the Virginia Quarterly Review, and the Best American Travel Writing. He is an alumnus of the Eddie Adams Workshop and has been a scholar in non-fiction at the Bread Loaf Writer's Conference. Elliott’s work has appeared or is forthcoming in VQR, Businessweek, Mother Jones, Granta, Time, GQ, Outside, Slate, and the New York Times.
Along with Afghanistan, Elliott's recent travels have taken him to Egypt, Gaza, Iraq, and Myanmar. He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia.
