Erin Galey
No stranger to Heinz ketchup and Troy Polamalu, Erin Galey was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. She was on track to become an astronaut at Brown University, when she took a playwriting class and fell in love with the performing arts, going on to earn an Honors degree in Creative Writing and Dramatic Literature.
Erin bummed around the world as a whitewater rafting guide for a while until she found a documentary project that introduced her to Austin, TX, where she lived for 3 years. Employed on commercials, music videos, and reality TV shows like VH1's "The Pickup Artist," Erin learned the ins and outs of the business, found her calling in camera department, and discovered she wanted more.
In 2007, Erin was invited to study at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Asia, as one of thirty-three MFA students in the pioneer class, where she focused on Directing and Cinematography. Erin has worked on over ten short films across the globe as director and cinematographer, winning awards at the SoCal Film Market, Palm Springs Shortfest, and La Femme Film Festival. In March 2010, Erin shot and directed a broadcast commercial for Olympus Tough Series cameras in Singapore. She maintains a position as a teaching assistant to cinematographer John Inwood at Tisch Asia.
Erin is currently in development with Film Himalaya, a production company in Kathmandu, on her thesis film BRAVE GIRL, based in the Annapurna and Chitwan regions of Nepal. The film explores the nature of brothel con artists in Nepal and India and one girl's struggle to break away from the twisted fate one man has in mind for her future.
When she's not behind the camera or writing up a new story, you can find Erin on the running path, in a kayak, twirling around her hula hoop, surfing, eating gado gado with friends, or sweating it out in a bikram yoga class.
Stay tuned for more videos to come about her travels and filmmaking projects.
Thanks for watching. :)
