I recommend iSquint for the Mac to everyone who asks me about compression, but I still don't know the best Windows program to recommend. Does anyone have a favorite?

MPEGStreamclip will do h.264 well. I believe you need to have the latest Quicktime player installed for it to have access to the codec. Super will also do h.264.

MeGUI is an open-source encoder that supports the open-source x264 H.264 codec. It is about as easy to use as an M1 tank, but it seems to have a checkbox / pull down box for every single possible H.264 feature. So for the tinkerer it might do the job.

After a few second thoughts, I can't recommend MeGUI. It's crazy complicated to use. Try one of the others mentioned.

Mediacoder is also a free transcoder program that supports H.264

However I can't seem to get mine to encode to h.264 successfully. I don't think anyone else has a problem so it might just be me.
