We're hosting a Vimeo video on an HTTPS site. We've specified that the video is to be loaded over HTTPS, but the crossdomain.xml file is still pulled over HTTP (no SSL). This causes ugly warnings in Chrome and invalidates the usefulness of the EV cert that we have on our site.

In doing a bit of searching, I see other folks have this same issue, but I haven't seen a remedy from Vimeo yet. Is there something that we can do on our end to fix this? This is a serious issue for us.

Thank you,
Justin

Hi Justin, Can you post a link to the place where your video is embedded so we can check it out?

When you embed a video onto this site, are you manually changing the "http" to "https" in the iframe embed code?

Surprisingly difficult to paste useful stuff in here. The short answer is yes: we're referencing the video using "https".

Ok, because the site on which you're trying to embed is https, it will more than likely throw up an error message when you try to embed a video using our iframe embed code. This is because our embed code defaults to using an http code, so even if you manually change the code of https, there will still be some unchangeable bits of the code that an https site cannot read.

Is there a timeline for improving this functionality of your app? I can only see this problem becoming more pronounced over time as more sites move to fully SSL.

Hi Justin, serving our videos over http ensures that videos load quickly and play as smoothly as possible. We have no timeline for altering this aspect of our embedding feature.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for your candor, Zena. Considering the nature of our business, this is pretty critical to us; we'll have to find another solution.

Thanks for your help!

Not a problem, Justin. Hope you find a solution that works for you. :-)

Unfortunate... Hope you all will reconsider trying to get embeds to support SSL, or at least update your docs to make it clear that they don't.
