It's something I've mentioned before - vimeo.com/forums/topic:5533 - but still have trouble with: I'd love an easily searchable music directory to dip into. Whenever I search for music that people are happy to be used on videos, I either end up at a specific label or artist or a site that is searchable by artist or album and so on. It's very nice to find people who are willing to share their creations but if they make funky house and I don't tend to use funky house, their specific details aren't much use.
I'd absolutely love Vimeo to develop a little annex for creative commons music searchable, similarly to professional library, by tags and descriptions including mood, style, tempo, instruments and so on.
There's no doubt it would become my first stop for soundtrack music.

have you tried Jamendo?
jamendo.com/en/creativecommons

Jamendo doesn't have an advanced search. So if you want to find music of a specific genre in combination with some tags and only with a creative commons attribution license that is not possible. It takes some time to find the good stuff on Jamendo, but it is worth it!

Yep, that's what I'm after: Music designed to support visuals that can be searched like library music by moods and keywords like tense, race or magic for example.
It's not very often that you'd want a three minute pop song with vocals, verses bridges and choruses that can only be found by searching for an artist's name.
Every now and again someone posts in these forums as a soundtrack composer but their music can usually only be found at a site specific to them or their label, or somewhere as vast as Myspace.
Go on, make a little space for music. You know you want to.

If I use music from Jamendo, will Vimeo respect its CC license?
It seems the Vimeo legal terms are not compatible with any CC material... (e.g. non commercial use, attribution...) :-(
Blake Whitman Staff
Yes, we are actually in the process of integrating CC with Vimeo as a matter of fact.
