    Hi everybody.

Well im starting with video edition with my Nikon D90 and nao im trying to make my first video with final cut.
My problem is that i dont know wich configuration i must use to optimize the HD from Nikon D90 on my videos, because i see i lose quality in my videos when editing with Final Cut.

So my answer is ¿what i should do to get good definition and good image quality in final cut?¿What configuration i should set?

I see great videos with the Nikon D90 and editing with final cut, but i cant find any explanation how to do it.

Thanks a lot for everybody who reads this brick and for the one who can help me.

The D90 shoots 24fps movie clips with sound at up to 720p HD (1280 x 720 pixels) in Motion JPEG format. Your "Capture Presets" tab, under the "Audio/Video Settings..." preferences (Key command= ⌥⌘Q), should be set to "DVCPRO HD - 720p24 48 kHz" The setting is locked and will be duplicated, if you double click it for editing. In that new window, you can change the FPS to 24. Also, you must navigate to the "Device Control Presets" tab and select "HDV FireWire NDF" double click that as well and change the 29.97 frame rate to 24 as well. once your capture is done and you place video on the timeline, if your running the latest FCP, you will be asked if you want you sequence to match you clip- say yes. After editing, you will want to pay attention to your export settings as well to make sure you are putting out what you need in terms of size, file type and quality to retain the quality of what you have shot.

    Hello there,

I'd like to know your point of you in my issue.

Till the last update FCP 6.0.6, I was doing exactly what you're saying and it was just working simply and perfecty.

But since the FCP updated the 23th of june in 6.0.6, I don't get anymore the message "if you want your sequence to match your clip" while placing a clip on the timeline.

I tried everything I could, googled a lot, but found absolutely nothing about d90 issues with FCP 6.0.6:

I tried to get back to the 6.0.5 version with the amazing Time Machine, but even this old version I don't get the message. So, basically, no way to work in real-time playback anymore.

Tell me if you got the same problem.

I don't how this could happen, I've been working for 6 months without any problem.

    Let me know

    Thanks for your time.

    cheers

Sorry Sean Anthony just one more question.

I cant chang the fps in the new window.

Where it puts DIGITEZER appears-(Missing)Dvcpro Hd 720 and the others two options are "None" and "usb video card" Wich i´ve to choose???? Because in the only option that i cant go to "advanced" to change fps is in the option "usb class video".

    Thanks again Sean Anthony

Hey, so I saw that you have the D90 and was wondering if you would recommend it? I've been saving up and have the cash, but heard the D-Movie wasn't the best. I'm a photographer too, so like that the D90 is both. Is it a good camera?

Dood i bought a D90 and then SOLD it! The video mode is only good for kids partys, family days out, and for holidays! Like me if you were going to use the D90 for music videos, short films, video art, Docs ect then you will be very disapointed! And for hand held shots long lens shots it will look awfull! Like jelly video, i noticed it on Virtical lines first they wobble and skew. i phoned NIKON UK and asked if there was a firmware update soon to fix this awfull video, they were very blunt and said NO! So i got fed up and sold it , i then saw the Canon-500D, tried it. 1080@20fps is not all that but the 720@30fps is very good (exceptable for hand held filming) NOTE! the D90 does take VERY, VERY good stills and its lens is perfect! just a shame about the Video. Good luck! stu.

Thanks so much for the info, both about editing the footage in FCP and about the exact camera model I was contemplating buying for video. Although I would only use it for the "kids parties, family days out and holidays" it's good to know the pros and cons. Now I just have to get my hands on one and try it.
