I'd love a creative commons search in vimeo as well as the ability to tag pictures CC as in flickr. I have had many of my flickr photos used by others thanks to their being able to search for my CC pictures. I'd love the same for videos.
Thanks!!
Robin Jakobsson
yeah CC and more ways to share your clips to people outside of vimeo aswell as inside the community. I want people to be able to download my clips in other flavvas than .mov as well. GPL ? that would be cool.
Ian Broyles
CC options options would be a great addition to Vimeo!
clickykbd
I know storage concerns are an issue... but it is a video storage site... perhaps the "original" as uploaded should be preserved... and when CC is integrated fully, should also be a download option (provided compatible license on the work of course).
Hah! (just found the download link, yes I'm new, maybe 3 hours on vimeo total). So is that an unaltered copy? Or a copy as processed by vimeo before making web version?
IE, yes, me too, CC us please. Choosing a license (per clip) and allowing license specific search/browse would be a huge asset!
djotaku
glad to see others like this too. Hope it gets on vimeo's growing TODO list

I DOTO!! gift economics breaks down, when participants have no one to give to.

any news on opportunity to licence *our* own videos under creative commons licence?
atm i'm checking different online video services and licencing content is on top of my priorities...
kewagi
*bump* Creative Commons is a wonderful thing, especially for people who mash other videos together (podcasters, video artists, etc.) And techically, it's a matter of 5 database fields (attribution, commercial use, sharing system, country, version). So please put this on the TODO!

Yesss! Please

I simply write so in the description and I add a "creative commons" tag, however it would be nice to have a license form when we upload so we make it easier to users trying to find CC video.

Yes, this would be a great addition. It's very useful to be able to search by license in flickr. vimeo could benefit from this also.
Soxiam Staff
just curious. do you folks have any concerns over the perpetual nature of cc license?
"A Yahoo spokesperson says the company does not keep track of the changes to CC attributions on particular photos, and advises people who want to use CC-licensed images to keep records of their own, for instance by taking a screenshot of the originating Flickr page."

This really doesn't concern me... the license is linked to the media where it sits online and is totally owner controlled. CC doesn't need to track it - I think that is the whole point of the model.

I vote this yes and i am sad to see no vimeo representative has chimed in on whether this is even a possibility on the horizon.

I would absolutely love to be able to search CC content for use in my Vimeo projects as well as license my video with CC.

We are entertaining the idea of implementing a CC system for Vimeo. For now, please contact any user whos videos you would like to use and ask them.
Tom Goskar
Any news on implementing a CC licensing system a la Flickr? It would be great to have the license showing near the video to explicitly state how you would allow your content to be used.
It would be good for Vimeo too, as a lot of people use the CC searches to find content. Hopefully some cool new people will contribute something back to the Vimeo community too :-)

Explicitly labeling and tagging (I used "creativecommons") will work I guess, but I strongly agree that the license we distribute our work under should be selectable during upload and integrated into the search.
Rickard
oh yeah, CC license system as flickr do it would be awesome..!

I'm totally in for it I already use CC on my own site. And CC is so much more then the stupid copyrights. I've also found a site where you can download total records with the CC license in it. So you can use the music for your movies etc. Really cool

Please put CC on Vimeo. That's the only thing I think is a plus on blip.tv
Adam Procter
Would like to be able to CC my videos on upload as well please
Steren Giannini
If I can't putmy video under CC license on Vimeo, why should I use it ?
TweakingKnobs

CC tags would be wonderful and very efficient, especially when looking for mixing content.
Cristian Conti
Where's the CC search?
Soxiam Staff
vimeo does not have CC integration yet.

I know..it was a way to say"when we'll see it on Vimeo?" :)

+1. I am new to Vimeo (just got a digital video camera actually) and for me it is a given that "Permissions", with CC licensing integration, is a necessary tab (at the moment a couple of options are under Privacy, which is somewhat related).
I am surprised that Vimeo has such great, sophisticated (yet simple to use) privacy controls and yet CC-licensing is not implemented yet. I consider it a basic expected component of any media-sharing service.
I will look forward to seeing it :) and in the meantime just manually write my licenses in the description and tags.

Let me know if you need any help implementing CC on Vimeo. We'd love to help.

thank you for the offer. we're definitely getting more serious of CC integration and we hope to slot in the development in the near future. please extend our appreciation to your crew for initiating discussion with us and providing excellent support on integration ideas many months ago.

I don't understand why people want this community wide open to the rest of the internet. Isn't that the entire point of Vimeo existing? Its a smaller community of people that care about what they do, and don't merely exist for self promotion?
Counterbugs
And I just don't like the idea of people using the content of others to integrate into your own videos. I don't want to see the same shot of a sunset 50 times in various videos on this site. Why would anyone want that? Shoot your own content.

If you implement the open licences, don't forget the Free Art Licence/Licence Art Libre : it's human-readable and more in the "GNU GPL" spirit (Free Software Foundation : "We don't take the position that artistic or entertainment works must be free, but if you want to make one free, we recommend the Free Art License." - gnu.org/licenses/licenses.html ). It's almost as a CC-By-SA.
