To find royalty free music at no charge under the Creative Commons License click on the soundclick link above and then change License Type to Creative Commons (Free), select the Genre and click go.

This site includes many different genre's of music by many different artists under the Creative Commons License. The difficult part at this site is just downloading one song. When you go to an artist's page and click on an album it wants you to download the whole album. But if you are listening to the album with the jamplayerweb there is an option at the bottom to Export this playlist: M3U. If you pause the music and click on M3U then the songs should open up in your Media Player and you can click the next and previous buttons in your Media Player and also click on File -> Save As... to save the song you are listening to.

Using Non-Royalty Free Music
If you already found a piece of music from a professional artist that you want to use in your film or other production then go to ascap.com/filmtv/faq.html to find out how to contact the copyright owner (usually the publisher) and acquire the appropriate license.

This is terrific thank you. I also found sounddogs.com to be really handy for both sound effects and music. Especially as you can right click on the MP3 and save to file (lo-res). You can edit your video and make sure it's exactly what you want before buying the quality version. (some other sites have their web site name said over and over dubbed on top of the track to protect it which is really annoying after a while).

Hello! I see this is an old thread, however it is very relevant to me as I'm a photographer and popped up when I was looking for music to use with my photos!! I'm located in Atlanta and love certain vibes that work with lifestyle portraiture. I'm unable to find what I'm really looking for to use in my industry and thought I could bump this to see if there are ideas from this great thread! I remember seeing a link to a website that connects filmmakers to musicians directly in one of these forums but can't seem to recall the name of the site. Is anyone might be able to point me in the right or similar direction?

The site had an option where the filmmaker would post a video and bio of the project, and interested musicians looking to collaborate could send links to their work. Sort of like a classified ad for the project.
