If you are experiencing problems with audio sync, or audio playback, please post a short description and a link to your video below. A moderator will take a look.

Be sure when you're exporting your video that you are using the following settings:

    Audio Codec: AAC
    Sound sample rate: 44.100 kHz
Audio quality: bit rate of 320 kbps.
Frame rate: This is usually 30 for USA/Japan/Canada, while in Europe and rest of the world it's usually 25. If there is an option that says "keyframes" go with the same value you used for framerate.

    Hi Matt,

    Their still off :(
the audio seems a few frames ahead of the video still....
    Please help... Thanks!

Are there any areas of blank or black frames in the video? Sometimes our system can chop off black frames causing desync.

replying to: "Are there any areas of blank or black frames in the video? Sometimes our system can chop off black frames causing desync. "

the only black frame in vimeo.com/7223859 is in the end. and yes, there are black frames in vimeo.com/7102615. I did put a slug underneath the whole video of both, which i was told would prevent issues like this....Your help is greatly appreciated. These sync issues throw off the whole viewing experience of the videos.

    Thanks!!!

I love vimeo, but this is very disappointing. Someone pleeeeaase help me.

Okay so i loaded a new video without compressing it down to an mpg4 and it doesnt have the sync issue...which takes up most of my allowed uploading space and i have to wait a total of two weeks to upload the other two as HD...is there any possible way to get two more hd uploads and a lil more space just for this week?
  • Daniel Hayek staff 1 month ago
Sorry you had to wait. Your upload limit is cool now.
  • Jose Jurado 1 month ago
no love?.... my upload limit is done.

Hi... I've got almost exactly the same problem as pepes above. So much so that I cutnpasted someone else's prob. ie. I've uploaded this video twice now...Every upload has been in compliance with the compression advice given before...Output from iMovie as Quicktime. No black frames at front apart from fade-in. Basically the video is a few seconds ahead of the audio. It does not show up like this on my machine, and every time i upload a different copy it has the same offset. it seems as if there is a second of video lost at the beginning...though the length in vimeo is the same as in quicktime viewer. the video is private and here: vimeo.com/7246803. I'm happy for any staff to help if poss but on verge of giving up on Vimeo and trying the dreaded Tube as I'm in a hurry. Is there a funamental glitch crept into Vimeos encoding? There seems to be a remarkable amount of pepes with the same problem here (?!) Thanks for any help/advice.
  • dalas verdugo staff 1 month ago
Your framerate is kind of strange. 24.3fps. Try 25fps if that's what you shot at.
  •
  • Andy Wood plus 1 month ago
?? Indeed you're right, that would be VERY strange! I wouldn't know how to set such a frame-rate, in fact you cant when outputting from iMovie that i can see. I set it to 'current'. Please advise further if poss. Thanks.

Hi again, I have since deleted fade-in and fade-out from my original edit to remove black frames from the video (I think this was possibly the culprit in some cases) but my audio is till out of sync. Help! I'm looking to link this to my blog and get some feedback on it asap before I submit it for something so any assistance would be great. Thanks in advance!

Hello there, we're having huge problems with the audio coming out of sync on our video.

This is our fourth upload attempt and the problems keeps repeating, ive followed the compression guidelines closely. We hve already missed our deadline and are under a fair amolunt of pressure, can you help us at all? thanks very much

How did you record an HD video in a mobile phone codec like 3GP? I'll try to fix this but you should try and follow this- vimeo.com/help/compression

Hi guys...I requested some help 13days ago and the problem is still not sorted. I then requested more help 10days ago but I haven't heard anything back at all. It's really frustrating to see that other people have put up queries in the meantime and these have been solved/are being looked after, should there not be a first-come, first-serve policy? I basically feel like I'm typing to myself right now. I have since used Viddler to upload my video and linked it to my blog which now means the Viddler logo is splashed all over it. I would much rather be promoting Vimeo but you haven't left me with any choice. It's disappointing to see other people here also suggesting moving to other video communities. If my problem was impossible to solve I would have really appreciated if someone had got back to me and told me that. I am sensing that there is a reluctance on Vimeo's part to admit that this syncing issue is a major problem that you are unable to get to grips with. I will keep checking back with Vimeo as I feel a naive loyalty to you guys. Right now though I am seriously disappointed. Hannah
  • Daniel Hayek staff 22 days ago
    Hi Hannah,

Sorry you've felt ignored. We aren't trying to hide anything. We handle thousands of videos a day and inevitably some of them will have errors. Sometimes it's our fault, sometimes it has to do with the way the video was compressed. Sometimes we have no idea why it happens, your videos appear to be compressed correctly. I am attempting to repair the sync issue on this video- vimeo.com/7257364

I hope this helps but I'm honestly not sure if it will at all.

Sorry you felt neglected. Vimeo is only about 15 people and almost 3 million users, sometimes we mess up.
  • Hannah Breslin 20 days ago
Hi Daniel, I really appreciate your reply and I hope the issue can be resolved. I have no doubt you are inundated each day with a million queries but even if a generic email was sent to folks saying it would take a specified amount of time to assess a problem that might help. I don't mind having to wait, but for a while there I had no idea if anyone was looking into the issue or not. Like I said hopefully the syncing issue on my video can be sorted so I can go back to using Vimeo for all my work...it's far preferable to all other video communities!
  • Daniel Hayek staff 19 days ago
You're welcome Hannah. Can you try a fresh upload, just a small file something under 40 or 50MB's let me know how that goes.
  • Hannah Breslin 13 days ago
Hi Daniel, after a week of technical disasters (such as my laptop giving up on me!) I have re-shot, re-edited and re-uploaded a new version of my video as a small mp4 file and then as a larger mov file and wouldn't you know...the sound and video are synced perfectly on both of them! So thanks for your help but for now things seem to be back on track! Hannah

hi, I uploaded this video, and audio there is out of sync, just a bit,

    vimeo.com/7800911

Can you have a look at it? Thanks a lot.
  • Blake Whitman staff 6 days ago
did you try our recommended settings and follow the tips above?
  •
  • Kenneth Clausen 5 days ago
To all who have had the problem with no sync. Here is what i discovered.

In Compression guidelines it says that you often see H.264 codec as .mp4. ignore that.

when you export your video from ex. Quicktime, you make it as a normal quicktime, but you adjust your compressor to H.264 i settings.
all other options should be as described i compression guidelines, although i've used 48 kHz istead of 44,1 kHz

this seems to get everything to work in my case.

So most important!!! Don't save your file as a mp4, but as a mov. and if your sound is recorded in 48 kHz, used that as well.

    Good luck

Hey. Again same problem. My sounds about 3-4 seconds out of sync in this has happened in my last 5 movies. None could be fixed.

    I followed the guidlines.

For some reason its cutting off the first 2sec of my film too.

    Has vimeo encountered a bug?
Theres so many uploaders with the same problem.
    Any explanation?

I just want to cry emo tears.

If you guys can fix my last upload that would be awesome.

    Hi,
Looks like you deleted that if this happens again post here.

We process tens of thousands of videos a day so if you see a few people having sync issues that's not indicative of a system wide problem.

  • Crossing The Goal plus 2 days ago
I am experiencing sync issues on most of my videos.

Like some others, also using Handbrake. Settings are slightly off recommendation, using 48khz instead of 44.1, and using 160kbps instead of 320. All other settings as recommended. While some other uploaders have reported audio getting ahead of the video around 16 minutes, but mine is well out of sync as early as 5 or 6 minutes.

    vimeo.com/7765270
    vimeo.com/7641717

These are just two videos with problems. Other videos suffer from sync problems, but I don't see a reason to post a litany of videos here unless there is a fix.
  • Daniel Hayek staff 2 days ago
Can you try uploading a video that is 44.1 and 320bps? Just a short clip under 5 mins or so to see if that works?
