If you're having trouble getting your videos to upload or convert successfully, here are a few things to try:
(1) Upload your file again. Many issues can be resolved with a simple do-over.
(2) Make sure that your video settings match our Compression Guidelines (vimeo.com/help/compression). Some codecs are not supported (vimeo.com/help/faq/problems_uploading#failed_conversion).
(3) Hardwire your computer to the Internet (via Ethernet cable) and disable Wi-Fi.
(4) Close any other open browser tabs or windows.
(5) Check your computer's power management settings so it does not power off or go to sleep during the upload.
(6) Update your browser (vimeo.com/help/faq/using_the_vimeo_website#browsers) and disable extensions (vimeo.com/help/faq/using_the_vimeo_website#disable_extensions).

My video uploaded OK but when I chose a thumbnail from 'random' it has been processing for 5 hours now. What can I do?
Zena Hirsch Staff
Hi Carol, sorry for the trouble! Could you please provide a link to the video in question?

I created a one minute and eight second video on imovie on my ipad but when I try and upload the video it denies my username and password.
Zena Hirsch Staff
Hi Peter, are you uploading directly from iMovie to Vimeo using iMovie's "Share to VImeo" feature?
ktb Plus
Hello I have tried uploading my video 3 times and still there is a problem with pixelation and resolution in certain areas, I have compressed it according to your guidelines. h.264 with 30fps and 5000 bitrate. I am exporting it from iMovie using Quicktime and that's where I run it through your compression algorithm. The movie is still nowhere near as clear as the original HD version in iMovie. I've done everything you guys suggested here before posting and it's still not solved.
You can go to the 4:45 mark in this video to see all the pixelation on the guy's head in the video. That's a clear example of the quality loss.
Here is the link to my video:

Hi there! I downloaded your source file and compared it to the playback on Vimeo, but unfortunately, I'm not sure I can see the pixelation that you are referring to at 4:45. Are you seeing this issue in the Flash player, the HTML5 player, or both?
ktb Plus
Hi there to you too. Thank you for the quick reply.
I've used both the Flash and HTML5 players and am seeing pixelation on my brand new Apple Air and on PC at work which uses a little older Viewsonic monitor. :-(
Zena Hirsch Staff
Could you please try downloading the Vimeo encoded .mp4 file and let me know if you see the pixelation there, as well? Also, if you could please send over a screenshot that indicates the pixelation, that would be very useful. Thank you!
ktb Plus
I've downloaded it and I am seeing the loss of HD quality. Here is a screen shot.

Is there a different or better way I can export from iMovie so that the film looks in great HD on Vimeo?
Thank you again
Zena Hirsch Staff
Hi there,
It looks like the bit rate on your file is pretty low for a 1080p video. I would recommend increasing your bit rate to 10,000 to 20,000 Kbps, as per our Compression Guidelines: vimeo.com/help/compression
Please let me know if you have any questions about those guidelines!

Hi, I've been uploading videos for my clients using all the same equipment and going through the same bouncing/converting/compression process every time. For some reason the past two videos I've tried to upload say 100% complete, then when I go to play the video it just says "Uh oh, your video is having trouble loading". I've tried playing it from a number of computers and I get the same message every time. Like I said, I didn't do anything different in my uploading process- why am I getting this "uh oh" and how to do fix it ASAP?? Thanks

Hi Jesse,
Your source files displayed many decoding errors during analyzation. Unfortunately, this means that the file is corrupt and unreadable by our transcoder. I would recommend re-exporting these files from whichever program you used to edit or compress them, then re-uploading to Vimeo.
Jesse Newman Park PRO
Hi Zena, Thanks for getting back to me.
Can you give me any details on what those errors are? I haven't changed anything in my exporting/compressing routine. The video plays fine off my computer, and youtube sucecssfully uploaded it as well.
I take the movie from Final Cut Pro and Export as a Quicktime .mov. Then I take it into compressor to get it from 33GB to 1.5GB or less.
Your help is greatly appreciated. I use Vimeo to deliver private lessons to clients because I like the professional look and feel to it as opposed to youtube. However I haven't changed my work flow so I don't understand why I'm getting these errors. I've re bounced and compressed both videos twice and have received the same results.
Your help is greatly appreciated
Zena Hirsch Staff
Unfortunately, the error log is too large to easily send, but here is a short sample of the kinds of errors that are coming up: pastebin.com/QLqsWp3u
Unfortunately, I can't give you specific insight on what is causing these errors. They do seem to be related to your audio encoding.
I would recommend following the export guidelines as described in this tutorial: vimeo.com/23979457

Hi Guys
Just used your iOS app to shoot and upload one of our vids. Seemed to work a treat, but...
the video in my account looks like it failed to upload (vimeo.com/66218874),
and...
it doesn't seem to exist anywhere in the app or on the iphone's photo/video library for me to try it again? Please help - really really need that video.
Thanks

Hi Jason, it doesn't look like that video finished uploading successfully.
The video should still exist in your video library, however, you can try uploading again! Please let me know if you are unable to track down the video in your video library.

Hi Zena
I recorded it direct from the Vimeo app, but is has not been stored on the phone at all and theres no history function in the app so it sounds like the version uploaded to Vimeo is all there is. Are you able to do anything with what has been uploaded? It seemed to work fine during capture (6.23mins) and started uploading ok but now can't play online and doesn't exist on the phone. Is there anything usable from the uploaded file?

Hi Jason,
Unfortunately, this file is not recoverable on our end, as it did not reach our servers in its entirety. I tested out the app on my end and was able to locate previous videos by tapping the center camera icon, then tapping "Video Library." If your video is not visible there, then unfortunately the only solution will be to re-shoot and re-upload. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Hi,
I'm currently uploading a 5 minute video and I've actually uploaded it for quite a few times now until I decided to just leave it uploading even if it says that it's 100% already. I'm just concerned if I'm waiting for nothing, it doesn't say anything about any error uploading it just says "uploading 100%", should I wait?

hi zena,
prior to reuploading the video on the link it said that i should try uploading it again so i did.. and now it says that i had to wait for the conversion which happens to be going on for 9 hours now.. would you mind checking if I uploaded it right? I just can't bear waiting another day for it to work and then only to find out i had to upload it.. again.

I passed this information along to our developers, and it appears that there was a server-related error. Unfortunately, this file is not recoverable and will need to be re-uploaded. I'm very sorry for the trouble! If you see the same issue occur, please let us know. In the meantime, we'll continue looking into what is causing this.

Hi Mark, everything seems to be playing normally with your video on this end. Are you still having trouble with playback?
Syncline Films PRO
Hi, i dont see any difference between free Vimeo account and Pro Vimeo account.
While uploading a video file, there is a bandwidth restriction which is very time consuming process.
So it doesn't help me having a RPO account on Vimeo.
As your one of the feature of Pro account is :
There are no bandwidth restrictions with Vimeo PRO.
Zena Hirsch Staff
Hi there, we do not restrict bandwidth on uploads or downloads for any of our accounts. PRO allows for 50GB of upload space (with the option to purchase additional storage), while Basic and Plus have weekly quotas of 500MB and 5GB respectively. You can read about all of the other features of Vimeo PRO here: vimeo.com/help/faq/pro
If you are experiencing a specific issue with your uploads, please describe exactly what you are seeing, and we should be able to help you out!

Hi Matt,
That looks like an issue with iMovie's "Share to Vimeo" feature. Vimeo did not create, nor do we maintain, that feature. Apple Support may have more information for you about this issue.
You can still upload videos using our recommended method: export your video according to our Compression Guidelines (vimeo.com/help/compresson), then upload via your browser at vimeo.com/upload.

Now you will never have to wait for your video to convert. That means no lines, no waiting, just instant conversion just like you always wanted. Even if your video is waiting in line to convert, upgrading to Plus will push your video to the front of the line, automagically.

Hi, I uploaded my videos just fine, and put them into an album so that they will play together. But when I send people the link to the album it says "no videos found" even though there is a picture of the video on the folder. When, while logged in, I click on the album, it is fine. What's going on? There are no privacy settings, and the videos are all processed and uploaded already. I can send the individual video links and people can watch them just fine.

Hi there,
I'm gonna try to re-process this job, but it looks like there may be an issue with that video file. It has three separate video tracks and two audio tracks.
What program did you use to edit and compress it?
Make sure you're following our Recommended Compression Settings and creating a video file with only one video and audio track: vimeo.com/help/compression
You can delete the video from its Settings page to free up space in your quota and re-upload once you've altered the file. Let us know if you run into any issues!

Hmmm. I added placards to the front and back of the main file in QuickTime Pro 7, and then exported it according to recommendations, I thought. I can try it again.
