I'm trying to replace a series of videos starting with this one: vimeo.com/6779155

When I select the file in the pop up window to replace it the little bar looks like it's going to start uploading then my browser crashes. I tried it on both Safari and Firefox, but both do the same thing. I'm running OSX 10.6.1 Snow Leopard with Safari 4.0.3 and Firefox 3.5.3. I updated my FlashPlayer to the latest version and yet I"m still getting the same issue. I'm wondering if this is a Vimeo issue or a local issue. The files are identical to the ones first uploaded, just re-encoded with a new soundtrack mix. The file is reading that it's slightly larger than the uploaded file, but I know Snow Leopard reads sizes differently so I'm not sure if I trust the discrepancy. Any clues on what's going on here?

I should clarify this occurs right after I select the file in the finder pop-up. The progress bars turns to the striped rainbow with the 0% and then the browser crashes

    Same. Very annoying.

    Just started today.

Vimeo, if it's not one thing, it's another. What the hell is going on over there! This is instance #4 in the past 2 months that I am going to have to go to a client and explain that their video I done but that I can't show them their video because your shit's broken. Tell me again why I am a Plus member?

Can someone please wake the hell up over there? Is it that you just can't handle it?

    I have the same problem.
Running on Mac OS X Tiger, but with latest Firefox and Safari browsers.

Yesterday when I tried to replace video Firefox kept crashing, but it would work in Safari.

Today when I try to upload a new video Firefox and Safari both crash (just as the upload starts). I downloaded the Desktop Uploader and that won't even launch properly. It crashes on launch.

So I have no way of uploading videos now.

Thanks Andrew, but can I use the basic uploader when replacing a video? When I go to that section it gives me the option now to use the "flash uploader" which leads me to assume that I'm presented with the basic uploader.

I'm not at home so I'll have to try this out tonight. Thanks for looking into it!

Having the same issue in both Safari and Firefox suddenly today, but not on replacing a video — new uploads in general. Running 10.6, and the latest versions of both browsers. Worked aces on Monday, not working now. I did remove a Google component from Safari since it was causing upload troubles with YouTube (did I swear by saying that site name here?) but I don't think this would affect here?

Very strange, OK we will keep investigating. As a reminder, you can always use the Basic uploader (which I am quite sure will not crash) by clicking "switch to basic uploader" or going here: vimeo.com/upload/video/basic

Hello. I am trying to replace three videos, 6609355, 6607304 and 6613956. It has crashed both my Safari and Firefox with the flash uploader. So I switched to basic uploader. Now this has stopped the crashing but now it says "Upload in progress. Please wait…" for about 10 minutes and then fails. I am also on Mac with Leopard OS. Can you help? many thanks...

PS: Did anyone try this with Chrone? Is it worth downloading?

Thank you for your reply but like I said in my post:
"i switched to basic uploader. now this has stopped the crashing but now it says "upload in progress. please wait…" for about 10 minutes and then fails."
Basic uploader failed me as well.

PS: I am also a Plus member and have quite a bit of explaining to do to my clients who are a world renowned pianist duo - very difficult clients indeed, therefore serious implications for company reputation and future business. Perhaps I can get away with it while it gets fixed during after hours? Thank you again!

Hi there--still having problems uploading, even using the basic uploader. Instead of crashing I get the 'upload in progress--please wait' message. (Using Mac OSX and tried both Safari and latest version of Firefox.)
  • Daniel Hayek staff 3 months ago
That's normal it will say that until the upload is finished.
  • Kirstin Butler plus 3 months ago
Thanks for the response! I'm having the same problem as reported above by others--that the 'upload in progress' message stays onscreen for hours with no sign of progress.
  • Andrew Pile staff 3 months ago
How big is the file? The basic uploader will display that as long as it's uploading. By the way, you should try switching to the Flash uploader now, it's fixed.
