So im actually going away to real college this fall in Shepherdstown, West Virginia and i know a couple million other people are going away to school this year too. im going to work on posting videos about what it's like to go to college, be away from parents, coping with whatever is going on at school. the first thing im forcing myself to do is make a video of my trip out to college. Shepherd University is only about an hour from my hometown so im thinking about taping the entire drive, moving in meeting my roomate for the first time. it's just an idea about starting a big portion of my life. and im also doing this as a reminder to myself to actually do it. it may not even be a major intensive project but just capturing the changes that are going on while leaving home for the first real time.

I'm down for this too! I'm off next month. Lucky you, only an hour away from "home". Mine is at least 8 hours... in a plane ride.

bummer. where at? your a bit better than me at handling being away. i like the fact i can drive home if i want to see my parents which is why i chose the school im going to.

off to schoool. off to schoool. to prove to my dad, that im not a foool
  •
  • I just finished that epic first year. I was so ready to leave, and as we pulled out of my driveway, and the first 15 min. of the 4 hour drive I sobbed.

It was weird. College isn't what you expect, and it's also everything.

Taping the drive sounds like a great idea. It's something I did three years ago, and the video can be seen here ( vimeo.com/235276 ).

I think you ought to do it, I guarantee you'll find it really interesting in a few years when you look back (you may also cringe about your clothing choices and poor attempt at a moustache, if you're anything like me).

I just finished my second year. Making videos with friends can also be a great way to have fun and even meet new people. And it's way less boring than pulling out a photo album when you want to show people your college years.
  •
  • I'm moving into my first apartment, in my second year of college. I'll probably film the white-space transformation to our humble abode... that could be interesting.

Good luck! Can't say I relate too much to the college situation, but I'm sure you'll do great. Photography is a wonderful subject, something I've always wanted to get into, plus WV is just beautiful!

i really need to goet on this but ive been so busy with moving in and now homework.
  •
  • I move in to my apartment on the 6th. First thing will be to carry my roommate across the threshold, and then take "before" pictures of every part of the place. After that, I think I'll just set my laptop up in each room as we complete them. Hopefully it'll end up in a nice time-lapse type video.

    Any other ideas?

  •
  • My new apartment! Moving in sucks... well, the labor part. The feelings from a new place are amazing though.
