I'd like to be able to put a bunch of private videos in an album and share the album. (Private Albums?) Is this something other people would use too? I'm trying to find a good way to share family videos of the kids.

    Thanks,

    Josh

Very cool idea Josh. Consider it done if its technically reasonable.

I'd like to second this feature request. Also it'd be a nice solution to the idea of "batch editing" privacy settings, i.e. I've got a bunch of videos in X album and once I set that to private, all videos contained within are marked as private with the same settings, be it password-protected or users I choose.

Oh, please please please make private albums! I think this would be the best feature ever.... It's such a hassle having to send my friends & family members individual links for private videos. It would be so great to be able to send them one link to a private album. Then, they only have to enter the password one time & have access to tons of private videos in a single album... That would be so great!!!! Thanks again :)

I'm actually holding off on posting any videos till I'm able to share private albums. It is just such a hassle sending out and expecting people to find multiple links to videos!

You're going to add this feature, aren't you? - pretty please! :)

it's being discussed but it won't be anytime soon. it really is far more complicated than people might imagine. there are number of interesting intersects between clip privacy, album privacy and sharing.

Please don't give up on it. It really would be a great feature to have. As a side note, I'm still interested in batch editing videos which is slightly off-topic. Maybe a list with checkboxes that would let you choose which one to apply certain changes to? Like Gmail! Just a thought...

Just found this thread, was going to suggest the same thing. How's the progress on it?

ditto - Vimeo has come on leaps and bounds since I last logged in, but this feature would make sending links to private videos so much easier.
Would it have to be a password thing - could it be something like Picasa Web Albums - where the album has a link which has an authorization key inside it? Easier than having to send a password?
Anyway keep up the good work - great site.

Has this been done yet? Someone mentioned a password-protected album in another thread and I'm wondering how they accomplished that.

Giving users the possibiity to make a private (password-protected) album (and at the same time all of its content) should be the foremost priority for Vimeo. Its absence has disappointed me and I keep on having to look for escamotages to have the same effect.

we are considering this feature but it is not the foremost priority for vimeo.
  • K. Inselman 6 months ago
Is it at least some sort of priority?

it should be a foremost priority. Passwrd protetion is why i chose vimeo over youtube, and password-protected albums the first thing i tried to do after uploading videos ...

Same here, and I saw a recent thread in the Bugs forum discussing this, is it now being worked on?

One implementation possibility, which may (or may not) be as simple as it seems, is that if someone doesn’t have privileges to see any video’s in an album, then they can’t see that the album exists.

Right now, I have a single album with one private video, and there’s some strangeness. If you look at my album list, you’ll see I have one, titled “Family.” You can even see the thumbnail image from the video.

However, if you view just that album, the thumbnail is hidden with a big “This video is private” thumbnail. If an album is composed entirely of private videos, then perhaps its privacy bit should be “true.”

That might be more complicated than having an album-wide setting, but maybe not.

That's a fantastic idea! currently I password protect individual family video's. Having a private album to link to would be better for me.

    Thanks again Vimeo!

I never thought about this. I just make all my videos private, then put them into individual albums. Then I share the albums with friends and family. I thought if someone pulled up one of my albums that it would show that the videos were private. Does it not do this?

I would love this as well. Was pretty surprised that it wasn't already a feature.
