    Wouldn't that be funny?

A dislike button might be fun.
  • Soxiam staff 2 years ago
    i dislike this idea! ;-)
  •
  • Alli Gallixsee 2 years ago
naw- I don't think it would be that fun. On current TV it was a big issue when they added a "redlight" function aslongside their greenlight button. A lot of people left the community because they thought it was an unnecessarily negative addition to the whole community structure. I personally think the "like it" button is plenty. If I don't like it I either leave a constructive comment or keep on browsing =)

    What are 'Digs' ?
  • Remyyy plus 2 years ago
I think it was the old way on Vimeo to say "like it". Am I right the ancestor of Vimeo ?
  • Buck Flashroy 2 years ago
Yeah, you're right Remy, it's what we had before "like it"s.
  • andre 3000 2 years ago
I would much prefer a 'Digs' button over 'Likes'. Is there anyway to petition to get it back? hmm

two separate buttons. "Dig it" and "Like it".
I don't know what the impact of that would be, but...
  • Ben Leonard 2 years ago
Yes! Two are better than one.
  • victoria 2 years ago
I thought two were a crowd...
  • ed 2 years ago
No, two is a conversation, three is a conspiracy!

This is an old request, and it's been shot down numerous times. You should know ben, because the last time it was suggested it was you suggesting the feature in the first place : vimeo.com/forums/topic:1854 The reasons for not having a dislike button now are the same as they were then.

The problem with 'dislike' is it creates a bad atmosphere, and you end up with YouTube-esque bitch-fests and infantile behaviour.

What benefit to a video maker is there of a 'dislike' button? How does a simple 'dislike' that help them become a better video maker? All it does is produce bad feeling - and that is not what Vimeo is about.

If you don't like a video, have the courtesy to take the time to leave valuable, polite feedback. Vimeo is about a nice user experience and a kind community. It's not about stats, rankings, or arguing. Which is the sole purpose of a dislike button.

Please, don't bring the topic up again. Or if you do, revive your old thread on the topic.
  • Eric E. Anderson 2 years ago
    Well said Matthew.

    Total agreement.

Ben, I'll give you a dislike button for your birthday this year. You can use it in real life, which might be a lot more exciting than using it on Vimeo. In fact, I'll give you two just in case the first one wears out too quickly. ;)
  • Alex Itin plus 2 years ago
    hmmmmm

    Ben you should have ideas.
  •
  • Ben Leonard 2 years ago
I want a dig it, like it, and appreciate it, button.
  • robert 2 years ago
...and a separate button that indicates that your judgment was impaired at the time.
  • andre 3000 2 years ago
    Amazing idea.

  • Xavier Candiani 2 years ago
I dislike the idea of a dislike button. I think its against diversity.

I don't see much difference between a dig or a like or apreciate button but i can imagine what would be few likes buttons.

    I like the colors.
    I like the production.
    I like the message.
    I like the quality.

BUT the lone hart shaped button is elegant.

In honor of Mitch Hedberg, there should be an "OK" button.
  • Steven Wilson 2 years ago
Haha! And a "share with ducks" button. There are six ducks on Vimeo, and they all want HD footage of Sun Chips!
  • Ben Leonard 2 years ago
more than anything else, we need a 'duck' button
  • Gentry 2 years ago
And a Chair-Lunch-Dinner next to the vimeo office!

  • DJ Paine plus 2 years ago
please do not EVER put a "dislike" "hate" or any "rating system!!
that would be a step down big time!

but different types of like buttons would be good.
but is that then a rating system?

  • Coyote 2 years ago
Is there a way to delete a "Like" when you don't like a video anymore?
  • Ben Leonard 2 years ago
just click the heart and it 'un-likes'

    or does it 'de-like'?
  • Steven Wilson 2 years ago
It breaks the video's heart, that's what it does!
  •
  • Jason Stallings 2 years ago
I like the like feature, and I don't like the dis-like idea.

I love the atmosphere of vimeo, very friendly, very clean.

I would like to see it stay this way for as long as possible.
  • Ben Leonard 2 years ago
a dislike button would be pretty stupid.

but a loop button... now that's something i could DIG
  • Ian Lucero plus 2 years ago
I too dig the loop button feature.

someone needs to make a video sharing website that incorporates more buttons than any other website on the internet.
I bet thats what Jakob is doing.

    zing!
  • Ben Leonard 2 years ago
    zing button!

buttons are what tie video, internet and user together. let us never underestimate the power of buttons. the more the better. "fill that player up with em" i say!

  • Bill plus 2 years ago
I cant think of any use for a dislike button other than to piss someone off and inhibit their work.
It totally goes against everything that Vimeo is.
  • Alex Itin plus 2 years ago
    Bill,
    I dislike your hair.

You are too wonderful to act silly
    and too silly become wonderful.

    lets just hear you rock.

There I think I've said a negative positive.

    or whatever.

But There is room for true criticism on Vimeo
