I uploaded the following video: vimeo.com/446484 and it converted just fine. However, in the "download" area it is being shown as an "UNK" and says "Download Unknown version."

The original video file was an MOV file encoded with Quicktime using H.264 and AAC.

i wonder if this is because you've uploaded a file without a proper extension. maybe reuploading the file with .mov will fix that.

Here's a link to a screenshot of the Get Info box for the file I uploaded: img.skitch.com/20071226-kayy5wp85g7upy4whpey8htuja.jpg The extension is definitely there - did it get lost somewhere along the way?

It would help them more if you take a screenshot of Quicktime's "Show Movie Inspector" window, not of Finder's "Get Info" window. Although, I fear that this is just a new bug that Vimeo has, that appeared after tweaking something or upgrading some of their libraries, it has nothing to do with our videos being "weird".

Thanks Eugenia - didn't think of that. Here's a link to a screenshot of the Inspector window...

It happened on my video as well:
    vimeo.com/451992
This is a new *vimeo* bug, because this is the SAME kind of file (using the exact same encoder and settings) as all my other files in the past that were recognized fine. And yet, this time it doesn't recognize it and calls it UNK.

I'm new but having similar issue. I uploaded my 23 minute movie called "summertime fun" twice, it's 450 megs,
and after all that upload it disappears rather than being
correctly converted, even though if you search for it,
both instances are recognized by the database.

I have the same problem. This video:

    vimeo.com/326071

In the download section it says Download Unknown Video
AND when I go to download I get an error message. It was a .avi file, and all my other videos seem to download ok.

if you want the file to be there you'll have to replace that video.

I've got the same problem- I download the video but it has the 'unknown' extension- is there any way of altering this?

I noticed the brilliant and slightly disturbing video made by Charlie Mars for the Electronics Free Men group has an UNK extension.
I renamed the extension to .wmv and it plays fine if anyones interested. It also plays with an .avi extension as well.
The Video "Requiem" can be found here.

Same problem. It has happened with two of my recent videos, but not all of them, even though they all have the exact same format.

The simplest way to avoid this is to just make sure your video has an extension when it's uploaded. Sometimes our system can guess what type of file it is an add it back in for you and sometimes it can't.
