I've done it before, but the thumbnail seems to only be replaced by a default color bar,
Anybody know why?

question. i assume you are talking about uploading a custom thumbnail? if so...

1. do you see the uploaded custom thumbnail when you go to the clip's settings page?

2. if yes, do you see the orange border around it?

if you said yes to 1 and no to 2, then click on the custom thumbnail to select it. save the changes and see if that changes the video thumbnail.

Hmmmm.....now it seems to be working. Before, it wouldn't let me select the thumbnail at all. So I actually couldn't get the border to turn orange. Maybe you have to wait awhile to have the thumbnail option become functional?

I have the same problem. Adding a custom thumbnail is unreliable. Yes, I always click the "Save Changes" button and the small thumbnail for the video will change, but the video's opening/embed frame itself is just the color strip.

me too. have difficulty getting a custom thumbnail to work. it now shows on the video page in the corner, but not on my front page.

I believe there is a bug (surprise) with the custom thumbnail upload / selection function. Upon the FIRST time a thumbnail is uploaded successfully, when I click on the custom thumbnail to select it for the FIRST time, the ORANGE border does NOT appear, yet the thumbnail is IMMEDIATELY selected and the thumbnail selection page is left automatically and goes to the video. Therefore, this action is inconsistent with selection of other automatically generated thumbnails whereby you have to click SAVE CHANGES button first BEFORE the selected thumbnail is finalized and set.

Thanks for addressing this Blake. I'm having the same issue. Uploaded a custom image, it didn't show up immediately, then it did after a half hour or so. Then I decided to change the image, uploaded a new one, and it hasn't shown up at all; even after waiting about 10 hours overnight and trying to re-set it several times. I've made sure to "Save Settings" for my video.

Please let us know when the issue has been addressed. Thanks!

Having same issues - PNG / JPG, I get the "success" message upon upload, but still get the rainbow bars as my image thumbnail.

same problem here... it is very frustrating. Any clue why the orange frame doesn't show around may custom thumbnail ? Can't select it without it. When I click on the thumbnail, i'a back on the video page with only the color bars displaying... heeeeeeeeeeelp

try this: select one of the default 12 thumbnails. save. go back to the settings page and click on the custom thumbnail.

I can see my custom thumbnail on the small previews on the "My videos" pages, but clicking on the video only shows the test bars (vimeo.com/865410). It's been a day since I changed the thumbnail.

this sounds like it's cache related issue reported in the past. give it some time and the correct thumbnail will appear.

Hi, I have the same problem. The custom thumbnail process is somehow very inpredictable and takes very, very long.

I keep waiting to see, if it changes. Would be geat, if Vimeo could work on this. Otherwise I am superhappy with Vimeo.

Agreed. I too would like to get a preferred thumbnail instead of one of the pre-selected ones, but all I get is the bars. Please see what you can do.

Same here. I upload a custom thumbnail, I can see it in the selection but can't select it unless I choose a preset thumbnail, leave, then return. When I do this, it appears in the top left as the video's thumbnail but I still get the bars at the start of the video when I go to play it.

I have gotten it to work in the past, but it seems completely random. For what I'm doing, the custom thumbnail is really quite important.

I know you are still working on this, but I changed to a different thumbnail (not custom upload) successfully. It shows correctly on the initial video page, but the color bars appear when you click through to to start the video. Also see the color bars on an embedded video on a "Channel" page. Could it take time to correct itself? Only been a couple of hours so far.

Referencing comment immediately above, after more than two days after changing my thumbnail (not a custom thumbnail), the start screen of my video is colored bars. also the embedded version in a Channel has colored bars instead of the thumbnail. did you replace this video at some point? you have many thumbnails associated with this video which usually means that you replaced this video at one point. sometimes this could lead to not all of the thumbnails being generated at all sizes. and then, if you try to pick one of the missing ones, we serve the default color bars because we don't have the image on the server.

Soxiam, Thanks! that was the issue. I had picked a thumbnail from the video that I had replaced before I did an HD, re-edited version. I now notice that there are actually 24 thumbnails and the last 12 were from the replaced video. Everything is working great now!

Similar problems to everyone else; I want to upload a custom thumbnail, but for me the 'Choose a file to upload' button is inactive and the text under stills says "Loading upload stuff. Just a sec" after half an hour. Please help!
