FFmbc can be used to re-wrap both progressive and interlaced AVCHD (MTS) files to .mp4 - this re-wrapping to mp4 means that they are supported by, for example, MPEG_Streamclip (Windows version) and can be converted to DNxHD for editing. I've found that converting with free apps particularly interlaced AVCHD for editing does not always produce good results, however FFmbc-0.5 videohelp.com/tools/ffmbc/old-versions#download and MPEG_Streamclip/DNxHD seems to work very well.

Can give details if anybody is interested...

Tested FFmbc-0.6 and it works perfectly with an AVCHD 1080 50i file:

Im very happy that you wrote this app because I always wonder when there will be a rewrap version for Windows for I won't have to use Mac all the time to do the rewrapping because I use Sony Vegas and Premier Pro mostly on Windows on my custom built machine!! Thanks a lot!!

lastminyt,

Do you know whether the latest Mac version of MPEG_Streamclip supports AVCHD? Or is it necessary to re-wrap MTS and M2TS as .mp4 in order that the files are supported, like one has to do for the Windows version of MPEG_Streamclip?

I do not have information about MPEG_Streamclip, sorry :)

No problem, somebody was having problems editing interlaced AVCHD on a Mac but now I think they are going to use Windows for de-interlacing and conversion.

If they do use the Windows version of MPEG_Streamclip then re-wrapping MTS to .mp4 will be very useful since .mp4 will be supported and they can create progressive intermediate files (Avid DNxHD) for editing :)
