We have been getting more serious about applying accessibility policies required by the federal government for higher education, and in that process, we have come to realize we can no longer use Vimeo as a video host because of the lack of subtitle support.
It's truly sad, because the pro account on Vimeo is so much more attractive for institutional use than YouTube, but we don't really have a choice when it comes to that feature.
I know there has been discussion about this in the past, and the answer always seems to be, "maybe someday, but not soon." Has that changed at all? Is there hope we can use Vimeo primarily again in the future?

CSU Monterey Bay is doing the same thing. Wish Vimeo would understand the need for closed captioning. Sad! Our film students have now been told to use youtube for distribution of their projects since they now must include cc in their workflow process.
I've seen some comments on other threads and they complain about cc, but if you had a child or a friend who was deaf, it becomes the right thing to do.

The lack of CC in Vimeo is a serious problem. It is a reason why I had to switch to YouTube (which I hate otherwise).

It's one of the projects we are looking into tackling in 2012.
