I've decided on the Canon HV30. But I can't figure out the best place to get it. I am seeing prices all the way from $409 at soniccameras.com (suspicious) to $999 at Circuit City.
Why such a vast difference in price? Who should I trust? There are so many places to choose from. Has anyone had any particularly good or bad experiences with the many camera vendors?
    Thanks in advance!

    Do a search at epinions.com

There is a VERY active thread going back over two years. A MUST READ for anyone looking at mail order.

i'll just get on board and back up B&H!! I've bought all my pro equipment from them and have never been disappointed.

The best part is, if you look at their deals, you can usually find the camera you want, with extras (like batteries, lenses, and camera bags) for the same price as the unit alone at most other places.

their shipping is REALLY fast too. I never buy anything from anywhere else, unless b&h doesn't carry it.

Right now it's either Best Buy or Walmart. Amazon if you want cheaper.

What I'm struggling with is what kind of camera to get. At least a 2GB w/HD and audio.

I would say B&H but i'm canadian, so i only use it as a reference place to price the items accurately when i sell. But i hear they carry a good warranty along with an all around good price, help, service, & shipping. (comment from a friend of mine).

There's a site that rates alot of retailers, if i can find it i'll toss up the link...

I am thinking of going into town today to get a HV30. Huppins in Spokane has it for 799.99. I am really lucky to have a place in town that carries all the video/camera items one could ever want. When Mr. Huppins retired his kids took the buisness over and created onecall.com. I have a very large internet store I can walk in to and play with items before I buy. I also trust them and not just cause they're a local compainy, they really want the best for their customers and the staff is great.

Before you buy online, check this site resellerratings.com for user ratings and reviews. Just key in the store name and click the review. Sonic Camera has 1.34 out of 10 rating. I would stay away from it.

    Quoted from someone wise:

"Adorama and B&H Photo Video have always had the lowest possible prices that will get you what you think you ordered. I've been buying from them personally for 30 years, each. They compete so heavily against each other that their prices are always the lowest legitimate prices for any current new camera."

I FULLY agree. These are the only two places I trust to get my equipment to me at the best price in the most orderly fashion.
