FREE the NEED is an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to distributing our surplus.

FREE the NEED was started in 1989 by a group of friends who wanted to improve the welfare of families and children in their area.

At FREE the NEED, we believe in the power of America's private sector, that we live in a community of individuals, corporations and institutions capable of providing everything need to families less fortunate than our own.

WE BELIEVE:

There are enough resources available for all of us to have everything that we need and want.

We all have surplus of something in our lives - food, clothing, furniture, shelter, money, time, and love.

By giving away our surplus to those in need, we receive more toward our own happiness and fulfillment.

Break the chain. Spread the surplus. Free the need.

Currently volunteers also distribute surplus in Siskiyou, Amador and Del Norte Counties in Northern California, and Jackson County in Southern Oregon.
