Gage Crib commented on Tapered Pipe Tapping With Interupted Thread Taps

I understand what you say about reviewing the presentation many times before making it public. I have posted a few of my own videos regarding ISO 594 reference fittings, none as professional done as yours, on YouTube and find that my viewers find the mistakes much better than I.

Staying with point #3. I took your advice and watched the video in full screen and discovered that I could read the numbers.

I found that the numbers, located in the lower right hand corner of the drawings, for the internal thread root and external thread crest were mis-positioned up. The result is that one is misidentified and the other is hanging in midair unlabeled

But that was not my point. My point was that the graphic visual presentation, which is all most viewers will really see, does not change from left to right side of the screen. The audio is describing how the NPT root and crest clear and the NPTF root and crest collide making the seal. So while listening to the audio, I looked at the graphics to understand the audio, but saw nothing but similarity between the two drawings. This itself caused me to be confused because I assumed that I was missing something. Subsequently I lost track of what was being said in the video. I took a minute here to determine how I would have made the drawing, but determined that would be better left up to a graphic artist.

I am taking the effort here to explain fully my thoughts because I just hate to see such great effort; excellent description, and fine videography be rendered confusing by poor supporting graphics. I do hope that you can correct the graphic problem described because to assist my customers understand the difference between NPT and NPTF, and assist you to increase the views of the video, I have embed it on my website. As of today, August 3, 2009, the video is embedded at: ring-plug-thread-gages.com/ti-NPT-National-Pipe-Taper.htm and at: ring-plug-thread-gages.com/ti-NPT-National-Pipe-Taper-Fuel.htm.

In the effort to maintain full disclosure, and for anyone who cares, Gage Crib Worldwide Inc is an Emgue distributor.

    Nice video.
    On the positive:
    1. The differences between NPT and NPTF were well explained.
    2. The explanation of the interrupted tap was wonderful.
    On the negative:
    1. USA has 3 pipe styles: a) NPT; b) NPTF c) ANPT. I know that ANPT is not all that common, and it is near identical to NPT in most instances, so I can understand why it was not covered in detail, But to leave it out completely should not have been done.
    2. Where you show the chart of NPT and NPTF thread shown side by side I can only assume that NPT was on left and NPTF was on right because the individual drawings were not labeled.
    3. While you were showing the drawings of NPT and NPTF thread side by side the audio indicated a visual difference between the two, but I could see no difference. If the differences were in the text, it was too small to read and too blurred when magnified.
