Beginning in 2004, subjects have covered a wide array of historical figures both in terms of chronology and areas of accomplishment, ranging from Genghis Khan to Princess Diana and from Pocahontas to Charles DeGaulle. The UMW Department of History and American Studies presents the “Great Lives” public lecture series during the spring semester. Endowed by the family of the late Carmen Culpeper Chappell (UMW Class of 1959), the series is open to the public free of charge.
