A mirror sphere hangs from the ceiling. The soundscape of the environment around the sphere is subjected to a special reverberation which has been modeled after seismic measurements of the subterranean decay after a large earthquake in Bolivia. As a natural consequence, the sound from the sphere itself - as it becomes a part of this soundscape - receives the same treatment causing an ever evolving feedback drone on the natural frequencies of Earth.
The illusion of the individual as separate from the rest of the world is broken in a visual and auditory fusion of the spheres surroundings to one. Earth engages in a dynamic dialog with the venue – a dialog through which the consequences of the actions of the individual appears obviously meaningful for the whole.
Sphere is an art piece built in Platform4 (platform4.dk) by sound artist Kristian Ross in 2011 as part of the Platform4-in-a-box project. Read more on spektakelaudio.dk/?page_id=482
