Square Pet is an interactive sound installation, inviting passersby to explore this furry interface and activate a plethora of finely textured sounds, chosen to complement the unique sensation of running fur or hair through one's fingers.

To make Square Pet, faux fur was stretched onto a frame and conductive thread was woven in. The thread was wired and run into an Arduino microcontroller, which read the voltage of each input. The sensor voltages were passed to Max/MSP, where MIDI notes and events were generated. Ableton Live received the MIDI and triggered field recordings and found sound to create the immersive soundscape.
