One of Shanghai's great enchantments is to watch the evening lights go on--preferably with a glass of Chardonnay. This video captures one breezy April evening on the Bund focusing on Shanghai's evening light decoration turning on in a 270 degree panorama between 6:15 and 7:00 p.m.
The central "lighting up sequence" is at 2:19 to 2:38 which is accelerated by 800% to emphasize how the lights come on (in reality, they "evolve" over about 3 minutes and watching for the particular changes is part of the fun). All other video sequences are accelerated by 200% to make the video stay within the 5 minutes targeted.
All shots were take from the terrace of "M on the Bund," Shanghai's premier fine dining restaurant on the 7th Floor of 20 Guandong Lu at The Bund. Try their "couscous" main dish if it is on the menu when you are there.
Shots up the river are of the Pushi side of the Huang Po river (and marshlands) on which Shanghai was built. The skyscrapers are across the river on the Pudong side looking both Northeast and Southwest from "M".
Stills were shot with a Nikon D-300 digital camera with a Nikkor 18-200 VR lens. The video was shot with a Canon HF-100 digital camcorder on a monopod. Although I did my best to hold the Canon still, as you can tell from the flags in the sequence, it was very windy that evening.
