The third of a series documenting the WWII wrecks of Savo Sound - also called Ironbottom Sound, after the number of ships sunk during the fierce fighting of the Solomon Islands campaign.
USS Aaron Ward DD483 was one of 66 Gleaves-class destroyers. Built in New Jersey in 1941, she was sunk by aerial attack in 1943 off Nggela Sule in 70m (240 ft), her guns still pointing skywards from her final defensive action.
Filmed using a Sony NEX-5n with 10-18mm lens in a Nauticam housing and twin Mangrove video lights.
