Street HeART: Street Artists Lend a Helping Hand to Long Island’s Brain Injured
sparrowmedia.net/projects/street-heart-benefit/
Huntington, New York: An art movement once stigmatized as part of NYC’s criminal underbelly is showing a compassionate side as bright as the colors they are known for decorating our urban landscape with. Street HEART is a unique benefit Art Auction with contributions from self-styled “street artists,” professional skateboarders, television personalities, and critically acclaimed graphic designers. All money raised at the Street HEART auction will go directly to the Guardian Brain Foundation, a non-profit based out of Huntington, Long Island that works to meet the special needs of brain injured people and the needs of victims of brain cancers and tumors. The Street HEART benefit exhibit will launch with a private opening party at 6:30pm, Thursday December 3rd at the Special Sauce flagship store, 303 Main Street, Huntington, New York. The opening will be hosted by celebrity break dancer Ivan “Urban Action Figure,” who will be joined by dozens of contributing area artists including internationally acclaimed graphic artist Mike Perry (full list of contributors included below.) Music will be provided by DJ Nick Pepe.
“Outside of the heated national debate engendered around health care, too often victims of serious brain injuries, even those who have insurance, cannot receive the proper benefits to help them meet the special needs they have, making it even harder to maintain a semblance of what most of us take for granted as a ‘normal life.’ This is why the work that The Guardian Brain does is so essential,” says Vanessa Diaz director of events production for Special Sauce. “Special Sauce is proud to be bringing together 22 artists spanning from Los Angeles to the Netherlands to support individuals who suffer from the lasting disruption of brain trauma and cancer.”
“Recently I learned that the Guardian Brain Foundation gifted a wheelchair accessible van to a local family whose 7 year old son suffers from limited motor functions as a result of a brain hemmorage,” says Street HEART contributing artist Brendan Munday of Huntington, Long Island, “I am grateful that my art can help benefit another child just like him.”
Representatives from the Guardian Brain Foundation will be present at Street HEART and available for comment the night of the event.
