Original Film by William Weiss
Remixed by Darby McDevitt
Created - with generous permission - using existing footage from William Weiss's 2000 film "Seemann, Deine Heimat Ist Das Meer".
William Weiss, AKA Brandon Schaeffer, and I shot the original film over the course of my final year at Western Washington University (1997-98). Most everything we filmed was either improvised on the spot or invented by Brandon the day before. Props and costumes and locations were our primary inspiration. The actual story coalesced sometime later in the editing room.
Two years after wrapping the shoot, when Brandon and I were living together in Seattle, he cobbled together the resources to complete the final work. He edited and I helped with sound design. We premiered the film in 2000 and Brandon included it in a program of newer films in late 2004. The full film can be seen here: vimeo.com/11720597
Many thanks to Brandon for allowing this reincarnation, and for giving me the opportunity to subject the world to my melodramatic, loose-jawed mugging.
