Civitella Val di Chiana is a quaint small hill town, it has one of the most beautiful /breathtaking views of the Arezzo valley. Close to Arezzo and Montevarchi and Siena in Tuscany - within easy proximity to the Chianti Classico region.
On May 12th 2013 there was a Ferrari gathering with some 25 Ferraris ranging from a 1957 classic competition Ferrari 250 GT to a 430 and 499 even a Dino.
On 29th June 1944, 117 people in Civitella, including the parish priest and a number of children from 3 years to 14 years old, were massacred in retaliation for the killing of two German soldiers by the hands of partisans. In 1963 the city received the Gold Medal for Civilian Valour.
The town dates back to Roman times, maybe earlier, and has a Castle, erected in 1048 and surrounded by a massive line of walls. It was used as headquarters by the German army during World War II, and was destroyed by Allied bombing in 1944. It has never been rebuilt, the ruins are extensive and dominate the hill.
