Seattle Film / dan carrillo: wet plates
spring 2010:
on a whim, i took my camera down to dan carrillo's studio to document his wet plate collodion process. i wasn't sure exactly what i would do with the footage, but knew both the story and subject matter were compelling. at the time, dan had shot close to 30 portraits and was using a burke and james 8x10.
winter 2011:
almost a year later, i returned to interview dan and have my own portrait taken. he had since refined his process, changed locations (into the frame shop where he works), upgraded cameras (to a deardorff 11x14 with an 8x10 back), shot close to 100 portraits, and had also been featured on the front page of the seattle times: seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/picturethis/2014078570_pt_8x10.html
