On a cloudy and foggy day The 31st Annual Rogallo Kite Festival took place June 8th-9th on the Outer Banks. The festival was held on Jockey’s Ridge Crossing and was FREE TO THE PUBLIC.
The Rogallo Kite Festival includes two days of kite flying to honor Francis Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing. His inventions started the sport of hang gliding and his designs have carried over into the stunt kites, power kites and hang gliders that are flown today.
In honor of Francis Rogallo and all of his accomplishments, Kitty Hawk Kites put his ideas on display through flight! Attendees came out and saw large kite displays, learned to fly various kites, kitemaking, and more fun activites! Kitty Hawk Kites announced that Kitebus Festivals will be at the Rogallo Kite Festival. Terry Murray, owner of Kitebus Festivals, has earned regional and national championships within the ranks of The Eastern League Sport Kite Association, and the American Kitefliers Association. After spending several years competing, Terry now enjoys entertaining folks at festivals and kite competitions with his Quad line kite flying skills. After 15 years of attending kiting events, Kitebus Festivals has accumulated kites to be enjoyed by everyone.
