Song Inspiration:

Smash the Emptiness was written and recorded in one night in my prayer closet, but the idea had been brewing in me for some time. It began when I was on tour with Agents of Future last summer in London, and I saw a piece of street art that made me stop and stare. Someone had spray painted the words "smash the emptiness" on a small wooden board and nailed it on a wall of graffiti. Those three words soothed a heaviness I had been feeling, and resonated into a daily prayer. Several months later the prayer turned into music. I wanted to offer an honest and simple song to my community; a song of consolation to the burdens, the loneliness, the sadness, and the darkness that so many of us carry. I wanted to sing my prayer : "God, smash the emptiness and set your people free!". I believe those words with all my heart, and if just one person finds something familiar in this song, then it has served its purpose. As Emily Dickinson said, "...if I can stop one heart from breaking, then I will not have lived in vain".
