I shot this video at opening of my photography exhibition March 31 in Burlington VT.
"Black is Beautiful" is a on going personal project that i have been working on. This project started after reading an article in Psychology Today that stated that black women are the less attractive race among other races. I got me thinking about my childhood growing up in Africa surrounded by beautiful and strong african women. So i decided to start photographing african women in my community including my mother, sisters, neighbors,... to show their humanity, strengths and resiliency.
All photographs are shot with a medium format. The film is scanned and printed on Epson paper.
This body of work addresses the question of beauty in the context of race. What is beauty? What is the standards of beauty in America? Is it inclusive in magazines, TV,...
If you are in Burlington VT please stop by and enjoy.
The series would be up through April.
The gallery is open Thursdays-Fridays
