This morning I took a trip up to the moorlands in Northumberland to photograph the black grouse lek. Unfortunately they have had a bad winter, and there were only 3 or 4 birds at the lek compared with around 10 to 15 last year.
A lek is an area where the black grouse, or some other species, gather to display and fight to attract the attention of the females. It is a fantastic spectacle but you should make sure when you are watching the birds lekking that you do not disturb them at all.
I didn't get much opportunity for footage, but this is what I got on the first day.
For the protection of the birds I am unable to release the location of the lek.
