❝ the Vimeo | 8MM HD | Film Group ❞

This actually from 2008, it formed part of the project i was producing when working towards my Masters degree..

The themes of my work all centered upon archived/found/bought celluloid, practically all from private collections, family holidays, special occasions... the lot.

my main focus with this work was to question ownership of this material, how it came to be in my possession, should it ever have been? this work really began to raise a lot of questions surrounding our lives, how we record and capture moments which we deem 'special' or perhaps even, which moments we would like to preserve for the future. It also raises some questions about media in general, specifically modern technologies and how throw away they have become, these old films cost a lot at the time and also had a limited recording capability time wise, as such i feel that a lot more thought was put into capturing the 'essence' of these families lives... i could go on and on with this..

I decided to over time destroy these films that came into my possession, for right or wrong it was a choice i had to make.. at the time i believed these families where in a sort of celluloid limbo and that it was my duty to release them forever. The irony is that it was projected as a digital loop, something which i never really considered until writing this. Originally 25 minutes in length, this is sped up a lot to give more emphasis on the physical decay..

what will they see of me
