District 7 Media had the opportunity to check out and play around with the new Dynamic Perception MX3 Motion Controller. This video showcases a few of the new features and benefits of the controller. Tutorials on the specific new features will be released soon as well.
Here are some of the more notable features and improvements to the MX3;
-Industrial strength: MX2 relied on a marriage between an arduino board and shield board it also used many hobby grade components.The MX3 is a fully integrated single board with on board chip and 100% industrial grade components for increased dependability and long life.
-Input Power: MX2 was limited to 12V input power - Mx3 can take upto 24V allowing use of a much wider variety of batteries including popular 14.4V Anton Bauer batteries.
-Motor Outputs/Power: MX2 had 2x motor ports and was limited to DC motors that pulled 12V @ 1Amp, Mx3 has 3x motor ports and can drive DC motors upto 24V @ 2A (double voltage and amp!). This allows for bigger/stronger motors and higher speed capability at the top end.
-Chip (Memory): MX2 had 32k of memory vs 128K on the MX3. Initial release firmware only takes up 30% of the available memory so lots of room to grow and the MX3 has USB host capabilities (MX2 did not), this will allow control cameras via PTP in the near future (firmware is in development).
-Input / output ports: MX2 had 1x I/O port whereas the MX3 has 2x, each I/O port has two independent lines bringing the total I/O channels to 4 on the MX3. Lots of creative possibilities, easy integration with other systems, and room for future features.
-MocoBus Port: MX3 comes with a dedicated MocoBus port. This will allow the MX3 to communicate with future products based on the MocoBus network concept (read up here dynamicperception.com/mocobus )
- New Ramp abilities: You can now set lead-in and ramp times easily and on the fly with the new MX3 controller.
- Voltage Meter & Warning system: You can now check how much power your battery has and enable the MX3 to warn you if your power is getting low. This will help inform shooters so they can be prepared to switch their power sources.
