AUDIOVISUALCY: Videographic Film and Moving Image Studies

On Friday March 1, 2013, I had the pleasure of interviewing Tom Brown, Lecturer in Film Studies at Kings College, London (kcl.ac.uk/artshums/depts/filmstudies/people/acad/brown/index.aspx), on the subject of direct address in the cinema, a topic he knows a huge amount about as author of the only book completely dedicated to it: BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL: DIRECT ADDRESS IN THE CINEMA (Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press, 2012). The interview is in two parts and has been animated for a special entry on these topics at FILM STUDIES FOR FREE together with links to numerous, freely accessible scholarly resources: filmstudiesforfree.blogspot.com/2013/04/breaking-fourth-wall-direct-address-and.html (including Part Two: YOU LOOKING AT ME? On Buñuel's LOS OLVIDADOS, will follow). Also see Leigh Singer's great video 'supercut' on breaking the fourth wall: blogs.indiewire.com/pressplay/video-essay-breaking-the-fourth-wall
