The very talented musician & composer Nikolai von Sallwitz approached me in the summer with the proposal for a series of visual music videos and artist collaborations called Sonic Materia — Crayon is the first one of the series.
The generative landscapes are a recurring theme in my work and they never seem to cease to fascinate me. I had been experimenting with the Blender node based procedural shader system for Drone II. The landscape is distorted and formed by the texture maps, which are generated by different sets of noise algorithms. Some of the audio stems are tied to parameters in the 3d world, like the camera position and evolution speeds of the terrain.
