Contemporary dance

In 2005 Tanja Zgonc and German choreographer Stefan Maria Marb visited Japan for the first time. There, in the studio of the legendary Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno, they took master classes and decided to create their first common dance piece. Both artists have a different approach to Butoh; nevertheless they use those differences as a positive impulse in creating BETWEeEN.

BETWEeEN describes a moment of spatial and temporal emptiness which is not yet defined. Its nature escapes verbal definition, yet it can be experienced, lived, in Japanese tradition – and especially in the Zen Buddhist tradition. The idea of Mu, meaning "without" or "no characteristics, emptiness," lies very near to the vision of BETWEeEN. To study this delicate issue more deeply both choreographers travelled this year again to Japan. In Kyoto they soaked themselves into watching a broad variation of the timeless gardens. Afterwards they went to Yokohama to rehearse intensively with Yoshito Ohno, the charismatic son of Kazuo Ohno. BETWEeEN that can be seen as a result of an enduring and intensive dialogic process, in which both artists according to their very different backgrounds and to their diverse personal history are dealing choreographically with the aspects of „being in between“ and „ objects which are located in between“ was pre-premiered at Kazuo Ohno Studio.

Leta 2005 sta Tanja Zgonc in nemški koreograf Stefan Maria Marb prvič obiskala Japonsko. V studiu legendarnega buto plesalca Kazua Ohna sta se udeležila masterklasov in se odločila ustvariti njuno prvo skupno predstavo. Oba umetnika imata različen pristop do buta, vendar razlike uporabita kot pozitiven vzgib pri ustvarjanju BETWEeEN.

BETWEeEN označuje trenutek še nedoločene prostorske in časovne praznine.
