Children’s is looking for Minnesota students to submit a 6- to 120 second video about influenza prevention.

Children’s will award the top three videos $3,000, $1,500, and $1,000 thanks to generous support from Kohl’s Cares. Additionally, the three winning PSA will be distributed to middle and high schools throughout Minnesota. Children’s will also conduct an event at the winning school to celebrate their win and the work of participating students.

To find out if your school is eligible to participate or to learn more about the rules, talk to your school media department or nursing staff. The submission deadline is January 27th this year.

                          Here are other details:

The PSAs must be student-developed and produced and supervised by an adult affiliated with the school. Students may work on the PSA individually or as a group. Awards can be used to purchase new equipment, training opportunities, or travel; awards cannot be used by an individual or groups of individuals. Winning schools must report to Children’s how the funds were used and the impact of the project on raising awareness about influenza prevention in the school.

A panel of parents, adolescent patients, and Children’s Infection Prevention Department staff will judge the PSAs. Scoring will be as follows:
                          • 10 points - video includes infection prevention messages: cough etiquette, hand hygiene, vaccination, and staying home when sick
                          • 20 points – video provides accurate information regarding infection prevention messages
                          • 30 points – video appeals to high school and middle school students
                          • 30 points – video creatively uses music, images, storyline, etc. to convey infection prevention messages
                          • 10 points – video is 60 to 120 second

To participate, please 1) submit your video on Vimeo using the directions below, 2) mail a DVD of the video and 3) enclosed submission form and consent forms (one for each student participant) to Children’s Hospitals and Clinics Infectious Disease Department.
