(Thumbnail would make a great Nike Ad! Gotta love that Shoe to board friction....A Kona Snake Run....JUST DO IT!) ;)
I bought the GoPro HD camera a week after it went on the market in November 2009. Now, they're dominating the market and the name GoPro is known around the world. After a winter of filming the boulders of the Southeast (still to be edited), I couldn't wait to take it to the legendary Kona Skatepark. I hadn't picked up a skateboard in years. Then, I got a call from my homie Ed....
"Yo man, I'm with Blake Sherrod right now. Let's go have a Kona Session, just like the old days. I am leaving to teach in Japan next week, and this will be my last opportunity for a session in 2010."
Every so often, after the hustle and bustle of a Kona weekend filled with skaters, rollerbladers, biker, moms, dads, grandmas, and girlfriends...if you can catch it while all the groms are still in class, you find the entire park empty, with too much shreddable concrete to know what to do with. It was built in 1977, which makes it the oldest private Skatepark in the country. I've also heard rumors that it is the oldest in the world.
(Correction in video: Since 1977, NOT 1972)
I've been fortunate to see some spectacular places in the world, and Kona Skatepark is up there with the best of them.
When you pick the right lines and really get into your flow. The possibilities are truly endless... Because concrete is always 6 ft. and glassy! ;)
