Goddess is a fabulous, experimental showcase from Melbourne in the vaudeville, cabaret format that incorporates projections, live performances and music with stunning, emerging and established female talents sometimes accompanied by male guest artists. Goddess began in 2011 with six shows performed during that year in various locations over Melbourne such as Bar 362, Revolver, St Kilda Bowlo, The GH Greyhound, The Lyrebird Lounge and The Ding Dong Lounge – all great places to look up if you’re in Melbourne and want to experience something fresh, independent and live.

Goddess was created by legendary, underground performer Kate Buck and friends primarily as a forum to showcase original female artists and performers. The Goddesses do not exclude male performers, in fact all the gals celebrate and acknowledge their male, musical counterparts’ back-up & input. Men are also very welcome in the audience. All the performers and most of the ladies and gents who attend love to take the opportunity to dress up. It adds a refreshing & somewhat romantic air which is appreciated by the audience.

Each gig is specifically tailored to suit the different type of venue. Sometimes it is a small intimate space, or a larger venue such as the Greyhound Hotel in St Kilda, which included a fashion parade by former designer and independent fashion retailer, Mary Renshaw and the Carlisle St Bazaar (a must to shop for artisan and vintage pieces if visiting Melbourne). Goddess encourages participation from artists and performers from a cross section of the arts. In Revolver’s ample space, on Prahran’s famous, bustling Chapel street, the Goddess show included wall projections as a back drop to the onstage performances. It also included a delicious performance by the beautiful & talented Jessabella Burlesque who loves performing at the Goddess shows. Most performers hail from Melbourne as Goddess shows are based in St Kilda, but there is opportunity for any professional singer, band or performer from elsewhere to join the girls. There is room for everyone, the only criteria being originality & independence. Recently Goddess played host to Miss Izzy Cox from Austin Texas, the Voodoo Billy, murder ballad Goddess, on her recent tour of Australia by invitation of Buck.
