              Instrument Mapping Collaboration 2011

              I have been working on a Projection Mapping project using musical instruments for a few months now and thought it may be a great chance to also do a collaborative piece with some other artists.

              This may be a good chance to got some of your music/animation into a projection mapping project for those of you without the space or equipment to do so.

              I have been working on a Projection Mapping project using musical instruments for a few months now and thought it may be a great chance to also do a collaborative piece with some other artists.

              This may be a good chance to got some of your music/animation into a projection mapping project for those of you without the space or equipment to do so.

              The Lowdown:

              The projection surfaces we have to play with include an electric guitar, two guitar amplifiers, bass guitar, keyboard and a drum kit (bass drum, snare, high and low tom, and a cymbal)

              Depending on how much interest there is I will be offering one instrument set (eg: entire drumkit or guitar + amp for example) per artist to use as their animation surface or one separate surface (eg: splitting the drumkit between 5 artists) per artist. I will may also offer the entire background too depending on interest.

              For each artist I will provide a photoshop file with your chosen instrument outlined as a vector and a photo overlay. I will also include an after effects file (CS4) with your instrument positioned correctly, and I can also provide a basic Cinema 4D file with your instrument aligned on the stage. You don't have to use any of these, but they are available if you need them. you don't have to use after effects, but you must be able toy provide me with an alpha masked video file at the end so I can put it all together.

              For the music I am open to suggestion but it must be only 30 seconds long and have elements to animate to and feel free to make something specifically for it. Im thinking that the music will be chosen by a vote between the Motion graphics artists involved before animation begins so that we can sync animations to the music if we want.

              Once the the final projection is completed it will be filmed and posted on Vimeo, complete with credits and links to everyone involved, and I can provide the end file to all involved.

              this will not be owned by me, but to everyone who helped create it. It wont be sold or used commercially, its purely for something fun to do while I work on my own projections.

              I have the space until at least mid June, maybe later so we have a few months to play with, but to keep things fresh I would like to have it done by mid April? More on this after interest is gathered. The space is located in Melbourne, Australia so if you are local then you can even come and check out the project and colab in person! Just let me know :)

              I am also a web developer so I will be making a small external site with more details etc... when I get the time :P
