Visited Shuri Castle, a gorgeous example of Ryukyuan "gusuku" style arcitechture, during the Harvest Moon "mid-autumn festival". In addition to the beautiful views of the castle itself, we were able to witness centuries-old dances, preserved and passed down from generation to generation. As a special treat - the castle was illuminated as night fell over the city.
The castle was almost completely obliterated during the Battle of Okinawa during WWII and has since been rebuilt from drawings, photographs and local memory. An amazing feat, helping to preserve the Ryukyuan culture, history and pride for future generations.
Shot with a Nikon D800 and a monopod.
