Fantasy In Orbit
An astronaut's impressions while orbiting the earth
In 1962 Philips asked Tom Dissevelt to compose an entire LP of electronic music. This LP project (14 tracks) was originally called ‘CheckPoints’ and depicted a journey around the world. The tunes had titles like: Mexico, Africa, Pacific or Australia. However, with the success of Dick Raaijmakers ‘Song of the Second Moon’ in mind, Philips wanted an album that would appeal to the current popular curiosity about outer space. Upon its release in 1964, the LP was renamed to Fantasy In Orbit.
All 14 tracks are animated by Henk Lamers and Jeanne de Bont from Loftmatic. The total animation is about 45 minutes. Dolby 5.0 surround sound was created by Kees Tazelaar and students of the Institute of Sonology, The Hague, The Netherlands. The film was shown during festivals: STRP 2009, Eindhoven, The Netherlands and novembermusic 2008, Den Bosch, The Netherlands.
Fantasy in Orbit is released on DVD with sponsorship by Sociéte Gavigniès. For more information loftmatic.com/_pages/Portfolio/Projects/fantasyInOrbit/fantasyInOrbit_01.html
