monome

More a serialosc exercise than anything else. The score of Steve Reich’s ‘Music for 18 Musicians’ relies on layered temporal freedom. Big chords in the opening/closing sections trisect into strata which glide over one another, causing harmonic dovetailing. I wanted to recreate this on a Monome, with LED feedback supplanting group coordination. It would’ve been easy to set up Ableton clip launching, but I wanted a standalone performance patch: here, the pitches, pulses and fades are all done in Max/MSP, so it can be hooked up to any MIDI instrument. (In this case, a DX7 emulator.)
